Penny has been a supporter of FHS for over 15 years. She has loved, cared for, and saved many dogs, and her loyal companions have made a life-changing impact on her.
Penny told us, “I volunteered at FHS 2006-2020 and had many happy and rewarding times walking dogs on Miller Street and then on Country Club. Eventually, for the last few years, I was only able to do laundry, but I enjoyed just being there and interacting with the people that came and showing them around.”
Shortly after volunteering with FHS in 2006, Penny adopted Abby, a beloved German Shepard mix puppy who was her 10th German Shepard furbaby. Penny said, “I adopted my Abby who turned out to be the most amazing dog.”
After volunteering for a few years, Penny began fostering dogs for Forsyth Humane Society. Penny shared with us, “which was so rewarding. My foster dog count was eventually 81 dogs. Abby helped me care for the fosters, made them welcome and showed the puppies how to be a dog.”
Penny’s wonderful Shepard Abby passed away in 2017. Abby is memorialized in our commemorative brick paver pathway. Penny said, “The brick pavers is a small way I’ve honored all the dogs I’ve loved and contribute to FHS.”
Featured in the last two calendars in our Pet Calendar Photo Contest, is Penny’s current German Shepard rescue, Allyssa. She is Penny’s mobility assistance companion and a wonderful friend.
“She has also turned into the most amazing dog. She is my devoted companion and my mobility assistance dog. As I’ve gotten old, I have difficulty walking but with her help and support, I’m able to walk. She keeps me safe, moving, and I’m so grateful.”
In our 2023 calendar, you can find Allyssa’s photo in the month of January. Penny has been a consistent donor, foster, volunteer, and friend of Forsyth Humane Society for many years, and we are grateful for her support. Her stories of volunteering, fostering, and her companions Abby and Allyssa showcases the wellness of animal companionship.
