Have a Heart 5K Run and Dog Walk On Saturday, February 14th, 2009, Crisis Control Misintries held the Have a Heart 5K Run and Dog Walk at the Children's Home campus in Winston-Salem, NC. The event benefitted Crisis Control Ministry and the Forsyth Humane Society in assisting nearly 3,000 new families who have applied for assistance due to layoffs and the reduction or elimination of part-time jobs in our community. Crisis Control Ministries (CCM) offers immediate relief to families that qualify by helping with mortgage and utility payments. The Forsyth Humane Society (FHS) has had an increased need for pet food and supplies over the past several months from families struggling to care for their cats and dogs due to rising unemployment and job losses. Thanks to those who joined us in supporting Crisis Control Ministries and the Forsyth Humane Society for the Have a Heart 5K Run and Dog Walk. Second Tail - Past Events Heather and Kobe Heather Kierstead and her dog Kobe (adopted from FHS) successfully completed a vegetarian thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail as a benefit for FHS. They departed from Maine on May 31, 2007, and completed the hike in Georgia on December 19, 2007 (a total of 2,175 miles). We have received so many donations in honor and appreciation for what Heather has done for us; over $17,250.00 so far. Heather has asked that all donations go to our spay/neuter and sick/injured animal funds. Read about their trip, see slide shows, interviews and much more. Heather And Kobe's A.T. Hike. If you would like to make a donation in Heather and Kobe’s honor, please click here. Indicate in the comments section that your donation is in honor of Heather and Kobe. Or you can send a check to us at FHS, 61 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Dogs at the Ballpark On May 10th, 2008 Winston Salem once again went to the dogs at the Ballpark. Pet owners spent time with their 4 legged companions at the Warthogs game. Pets owners paid $2 for their pets to come to the game, and all the proceeds went to the Forsyth Humane Society. Check out the fun from the Bark at the Ballpark: Winston-Salem has gone to the cats and dogs... The Forsyth Humane Society once again brings a public art exhibition to the streets of Winston-Salem. They kicked off the event on April 26th, 2008 with the ART UNLEASHED Parade and Festival. Bigger-than-life cats and dogs transform downtown streets in this community arts project during the summer of 2008. The pack of fiberglass canines and kitties – at peace with one another for the good of the real animals of Forsyth County. They will sit – and stay – through the first of August, vibrantly gracing downtown streets, storefronts and intersections, bringing people downtown and bringing smiles to their faces. Check out the fun from the Art Unleashed Parade and Festival:
Not only was the Art Unleashed Festival going on downtown, but the Forsyth County Rabies Clinic was going on as well just down the street at the Coliseum. If you ever wondered what a Rabies Clinic is like, see the story below.
