Art Unleashed! 2010

Forsyth County will once again be puttin’ on the dog and cattin’ around with Art Unleashed! 2010. Up to twenty gussied up dogs and cats – the artistically-decorated fiberglass kind – will hit the streets in late April as part of our exciting public art project. There they will sit—and stay!—for most of the summer, bringing smiles to many faces. These dogs and cats, decorated by some of the best artists in the area, will offer dozens of reasons to call Winston-Salem the City of the Arts.

This year, we’re expanding Art Unleashed to include all types of animal art: painting, photography, prints, sculpture, jewelry, metal work, ceramics, house wares, and, in fact, any type of original animal art that an artist can create. We have received all entries for the dog and cat fiberglass statues and are only looking for other animal art at this time. Original art submissions must be made using the official Original Art Entry Form(s) which may be downloaded here. We’ll kick things off with The Art Unleashed Festival and Pet Parade in late April 2010 and all artwork will go on display in Winston-Salem after the festival. Everything will be auctioned off at a gala Art Unleashed Auction party will be at Bermuda Run Country Club on September 18, 2010. Artists will receive a percentage of the auction price of their creation.

Art Unleashed! will raise funds for animals in need, who too often live out on the streets for real. Funds raised will support the Humane Society’s "No-Kill" Adoption Center, Educational Outreach Programs, Sick and Injured Animal Fund, and Low-Cost Spay Neuter Assistance for Low-Income Pet Owners. By supporting Art Unleashed! you’ll help end animal overpopulation in our community. Together we can promote spay-neuter and responsible pet ownership.
